2020 Subaru Outback

More extreme capability for next-level adventures
Over the past quarter-century, the Subaru Outback has carved out a niche as a uniquely adventurous utility vehicle with the genuine go-anywhere capability that only comes from standard Subaru Symmetrical Full-Time AWD, X-MODE® and generous ground clearance. Now, with the all-new 2020 Subaru Outback, these qualities are taken to bold new heights. Completely reengineered from top to bottom, the new Outback is now built on the Subaru Global Platform, features the choice of two all-new SUBARU BOXER® engines and has even more advanced safety systems. The new exterior design matches the rugged character of the Outback, while the new interior brings unexpected levels of comfort and refinement. The passenger cabin also delivers more space for everyone, as well as increased versatility for carrying more adventurous gear. To top it all off, the standard roof rails with crossbars make it easy to bring bulkier items along for the ride. The 2020 Subaru Outback had a big reputation to live up to-now, it's equipped for even bigger challenges.

SUBARU OUTBACK 2020, ON THE ROAD TO ADVENTURE
All Subaru vehicles are aimed at adventurers and outdoor enthusiasts. But it's the 2020 Subaru Outback that best meets the needs of those who like to think outside the box, and sometimes take the longer route. Even if that means going over a few more difficult obstacles. Designed on a rigid platform, and designed to have a low center of gravity for better balance and eliminate body roll, the 2020 Subaru Outback leverages all the advantages of the Subaru family to get its occupants where they want to go. A great alternative to larger utility vehicles.

READY FOR THE MOUNTAIN
The standard all-wheel drive on the 2020 Subaru Outback is the same one found under the hood of almost every vehicle in the family. It is a symmetrical, constant-mesh system, whose torque transfer capability allows intense off-road use. We also gave it the X mode, a system that allows it to better control steep descents. All this installed on a vehicle whose ground clearance of 220 mm allows it to overcome obstacles without facing too much resistance.

NEW HIGH-PERFORMANCE SUBARU BOXER® ENGINES
The all-new 2020 Subaru Outback offers a choice of two SUBARU BOXER® engines. The 2.5-liter 4-cylinder direct injection engine, mated to a new Lineartronic® continuously variable transmission (CVT), beautifully balances powerful response and remarkable fuel economy. The 2.4-liter direct-injection 4-cylinder turbo engine is mated to a new high-torque CVT transmission to deliver a higher level of performance. Both engines incorporate the latest weight reduction measures and advanced technologies to improve efficiency and acceleration while maximizing driver involvement.

INSIDE
The new Outback's completely revamped interior begins under the body, with the Subaru Global Platform. More robust than ever, this new platform lays the foundation for a quieter cabin with more space for occupants and their luggage. The cabin itself adopts a cleaner, more streamlined design, improved soundproofing, more refined touches, revitalized layout and advanced technologies. The result is a highly desirable adventure-ready utility.
ASYMMETRICAL FULL TRACTION
The Subaru Outback is available with two new versions of the Lineartronic® CVT, one mated to the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, the other mated to the 2.4-liter turbo 4-cylinder engine. The design of these transmissions has been further refined to provide better efficiency, quieter operation and superior handling.
In either case, the drive system is seamlessly integrated with the Subaru symmetrical full-time all-wheel drive system, to deliver an unmatched level of control and confidence in all conditions. With these drive systems, the Outback combines the superior performance of a full-time all-wheel-drive utility with the excellent fuel economy of front-wheel drive.
